Canada's Blue Jays Claim World Series Showdown With Los Angeles Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

George Springer was instrumental for the Houston Astros winning the World Series in 2017.

The Toronto Blue Jays earned a spot in their first Fall Classic following the 1993 season by beating the Mariners in the seventh seventh game of the ALCS.

Down three runs to one, outfielder George Springer smashed a three-run homer in the seventh, guiding the sole Canadian team in MLB to a 4-3 win in the seven-game series. Next up are the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team that is the reigning title, in the anticipated Fall Classic.

"I'm thrilled for everyone here, our city, the nation," said Springer, a star of the Astros team that secured the 2017 championship. "This is such an unbelievable moment."

George Springer has now slugged 23 total post-season home runs, placing him third on the list behind Manny Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).

"I can't think of anyone else on planet Earth that I'd choose in that spot besides George Springer with his playoff prowess," said Schneider.

The Mariners, despite leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, are still the one club that has never reached in a Fall Classic.

Manager Dan Wilson stated "certainly that it's going to sting" following his club's elimination at Rogers Centre, but commended their work in the campaign.

"They're an exceptional squad. Unfortunately that we had to come out on the losing end of this game," he remarked.

Toronto's team secured the World Series on both previous visits in the early 90s, and will host the Dodgers in the opener on this Friday.
