A 60-day voyage circling the Australian Coast was terminated following the death of an older woman who was abandoned by the cruise liner on a remote coastal location.

The elderly woman had been hiking on the remote island with fellow passengers from the Coral Adventurer, but broke off from the excursion for a break. The liner departed without her and returned later that day after the personnel realised the lady was not present.

A large-scale hunt discovered her body the next day.

Officials are investigating the incident, together with police and the state coroner.

Head of the shipping company said that guests and personnel on the vessel were notified that the rest of the journey had been called off due to the "sad loss and prior engine troubles".

In a statement, he mentioned that guests would be issued a total repayment, and said the operator was working "to organize the travel back of the individuals via private aircraft".

Officials also released an revised statement, and said they had "provided a notice to the Captain" banning any further travelers from getting on the vessel.

The official said that they would attend the ship in the port city upon its arrival.
