Line of Duty Announced for 7th Series on the British Broadcaster
The beloved crime series AC-12 is officially returning for its 7th installment, announced by the BBC.
An upcoming six-part series created by Jed Mercurio starts production in Belfast this spring, as confirmed by the production team.
Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the comeback, saying she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Her co-star remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together soon."
The previous series concluded in 2021 with a finale that attracted over 17 million viewers. Speculation about a new season have been circulating for some time, but confirmation only came this week.
New Challenges for AC-12
The seventh season begins with AC-12 having been disbanded and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by the announcement.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue working to tackle misconduct within the law enforcement.
Their work "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, these officers will take on their "most sensitive case to date."
Fresh Face and Complex Case
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer celebrated for busts of organized crime, is accused of misusing his authority to become a sexual predator.
Yet, his case might serve as a intentional diversion from a larger danger still active in the shadows, plot details suggested.
In a statement, Jed Mercurio commented: "Everyone involved feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had so many followers watch the ups and downs of the unit over multiple series and we are thrilled to be returning for a seventh season."
He added: "Corruption in this country is supposed to have ended while the series was off air, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."
Actor Responses
The Scottish actor called appearing in the police drama as "the role of a career".
"Not only the show's success but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I can't wait to wear the uniform again and reunite with everyone," he said.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "It goes without saying I'm very happy Line of Duty is back! Can't wait to work with the creator, Compston and Dunbar again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar commented: "As we count down the AC-12 return, what a joy it is to know that the central trio will be back filming soon."
"Pleased with the news and looking forward to those mercurial plot developments."
Series Legacy
Line of Duty launched in 2012 and became one of the most popular TV dramas of the past ten years, attracting guest stars such as Stephen Graham.
The BBC haven't revealed when the upcoming series will hit screens.
The finale of series six drew the extended plot about the search for kingpin known as "H" to a close, and the creative team indicated at the time there were no plans for additional seasons.
However, the network confirmed on Tuesday that a new season is now in development.
