The Details Known Concerning the Victims of the Bondi Terror Attack
At least 16 people perished and in excess of 40 were hurt when gunmen fired on a Hanukkah gathering at Bondi Beach, a tragedy local authorities have labeled a act of terrorism.

Eli Schlanger
London-born clergyman Eli Schlanger, 41, was the first to be publicly identified.
Known as a father of five children, he was the assistant rabbi at Chabad of Bondi. Family members and friends described him as “lively, dynamic, and vibrant and a very kind and sociable person who was dedicated to assisting others”.
“How can a happy rabbi who went to a beach to share joy and positivity, to make the world a better place, meet his end in this way?” a family member said.
Schlanger and his wife had recently celebrated the birth of their youngest child just a few months ago.
Alexander Kleytman
Alexander Kleytman was also confirmed among the deceased, as stated by his wife.
She told the events before the shooting, explaining they had been standing together when the gunfire started. “He moved to protect me because he wanted to stay near me,” she recalled.
The husband and wife were both Holocaust survivors, having experienced unspeakable terror in their childhood. They had later immigrated to Australia from Ukraine.
Dan Elkayam
The French foreign ministry have confirmed that French man Dan Elkayam is among the victims.
Officially, the Foreign Minister declared that France mourned with his family and loved ones, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.
“This cowardly attack is a fresh and tragic example of a revolting outpouring of hatred against Jews that we must combat,” the message continued.
One Child
A young girl, aged 10 who was taken to the a children's hospital is among those who had died, authorities stated.
One Israeli Citizen
An Israeli citizen was a fatality during the attack, as per multiple sources referencing the Israeli foreign ministry.
Those Injured
Of the 42 people transported to hospital, many are still receiving treatment, with five in critical condition. The injured comprise two police officers who responded to the attack.
A wounded man is a member of the public who attempted to intervene to tackle one of the gunmen. Hailed as a hero, he received gunshot wounds but is recovering well in hospital.
Arsen Ostrovsky
One of those wounded is Arsen Ostrovsky, a public affairs professional. It has been reported he was wounded and underwent treatment in hospital.
Communicating, he recounted the incident as an “utter carnage,” but also praised the actions of those who came to assist. He said he felt it was a “miracle” he was alive.
Evan Zlatkis
Evan Zlatkis, a media director, was another casualty in the shooting. He described he heard “dozens and dozens” of shots.
“Initially, I believed it was rubber bullets, but it penetrated my own skin and into my leg,” he stated. “I’ve been shot myself. I received first aid. I’m ok.”
