The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.
Although not quite at the identical stature as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a second term in office.
“Unless you count eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life away from worry.”
The event, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The swine, provided by a local firefighter, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “6-7” – originating from a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The craze became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently named “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.
“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to begin the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.
“It represents the essence of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Every time, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”
Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
