The Princess of Wales's Traditional Festive Service of Carols Pays Tribute to Charity Helpers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her customary festive musical service at the historic Abbey, with a congregation comprising royals, celebrities and local heroes who have supported their local areas.

The 1,600 guests will listen to a selection of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from performers including Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Focusing on Kindness and Compassion

The central message of the event, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on the afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

Attending the event are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose child passed away from a tumour, and who founded an organisation, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to help households where there is a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often quietly and unspoken, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an remarkable change to the lives of others," Her Royal Highness stated in a letter ahead of the festive gathering.

A Steady Comeback

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own steady comeback to official duties following her health challenges and treatment, last month delivering her first public speech for two years, in which she reflected on recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Musical Talent and Access

Those coming to the Abbey will enjoy performances from budding artists aided by the Future Talent charity, set up with the help of the Duchess of Kent to increase availability of instrumental training.

An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who performs on the trumpet and is from Wales, has been helped by the organisation, with awards contributing to equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "amazing" to be playing at the concert.

"Music can be very expensive," she stated. She is now enrolled at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to cultivate their performance abilities.

Generations Gathering

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who plays the euphonium, will be present at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many important people," she said.

Within the audience will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will encompass Saphia Turner, aged nine, honouree of a young hero award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to collect donations for community pantries.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been decorated with custom-created holiday decorations, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett helping to make them.

Taking to the stage will be singer Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the perfect culmination."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be broadcast on a major network on Christmas Eve.
