The second-hand marketplace Members Share Anger About Size Changes
Members of the platform have expressed outrage following a change that caused listings displaying inaccurate size information.
This online marketplace has revised its sizing categories for women's and children's garments failing to inform all users about the change.
Online Platforms Response
Countless users and merchants have taken to social media claiming that product pages now present a modified sizing category compared to what was initially listed due to the recalibration.
The company said the updated approach better aligns with comparable marketplaces.
It has advised users to examine their items and manually change the size when needed, which has left users frustrated.
Size Classification Modifications
Before the change, the sizes had both numerical and alphabetical indicators, like S/8 or M/10.
The revised method features a letter and a range such as S/UK 8-10.
In some cases, the size labels have been reassigned - for example a size L was formerly size 12 but is now a UK 16-18.
User Experiences
Frankie Bridger, who creates plus-size fashion videos, explained the modification "makes transactions more difficult".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
Stephanie Gallen, from Glasgow, stated items she posted with size 14 tags were appearing on the platform as larger sizing 20-22.
"Should someone sized 20-22 purchase these they may become frustrated," she stated.
Manual Updates
A different user, located in England, said she had been left angered because the modification necessitated personal updates the measurements for "each individual item".
"For me this is particularly frustrating, because of my ongoing medical condition and Vinted sales have been crucial for me since losing part of my income," she stated.
Platform Context
The service features exceeding 100 million members, including 18 million in the UK.
It has proved a popular alternative versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This is not the initial instance that an unexpected update within the service has received backlash: previously, the service retracted a modification concerning shipment methods due to shopper criticism.
