The Two Fatalities Revealed in the Ivy League School Attack as Law Enforcement Continue Hunt for Perpetrator.

Two students who lost their lives in the weekend's violent attack at Brown University were honored at the start of the week – while an intensive search for their shooter carried on following the freeing by authorities in Rhode Island of the only individual questioned in the case.

Honoring a Lost Student

The young woman Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama, was called “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, according to the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which paid tribute to her at a service on Sunday.

She served as vice-president of Brown’s chapter of the campus GOP group, according to the organization. Karoline Leavitt also expressed sympathies on social media, remarking: “There are no words. Remembering her kin and peers, especially her parents.”

An International Student

The other deceased individual was an Uzbek national named MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, from Uzbekistan in his initial year at the Ivy League university, family members said.

Umurzokov’s identity was officially acknowledged by Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. His ambitions were lofty of becoming a neurosurgeon and aiding others,” Samira Umurzokova, his sister said in a tribute.

What Happened

Nine other people were hurt in Saturday’s attack in the engineering building of Brown’s campus in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.

Authorities said by the end of Sunday that a 24-year-man arrested in a police operation at a Hampton Inn about approximately 17 miles from the scene earlier in the day was set to be freed.

“We have a murderer out there,” declared the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.

He continued, “Investigations can lead one way, and then you need to change course and head another way, and that’s exactly what has happened over the last 24 hours or so.”

Community Anxiety

Brett Smiley, Brett Smiley, noted: “This will probably generate new worry for our community”.

The gunman opened fire inside a classroom in the engineering building on over the weekend, discharging in excess of 40 shots from a 9mm pistol, a law enforcement official reported to the news agency.

Police that raided the inn found two firearms and magazines when the suspect was taken into custody, the news agency reported.

Condition of the Injured

Of the nine hurt, one student was discharged from care, mentioned Christina Paxson, Christina Paxson. Seven others were in grave but unchanging health, and another was critically ill, officials reported on Sunday.

A private school, a private academy in North Carolina, said Kendall Turner, Kendall Turner, was one of the critically injured.

Further Tributes

Cook was honored at a religious service in Birmingham on Sunday. A reverend stated, “She shone as a remarkable, stable, devout beacon not only here growing up... but at Brown she was a shining example in that particular place as well.”

A group leader, Martin Bertao, posted a statement from the club. “Ella was recognized for her courageous, valiant, and compassionate nature as she worked for her branch and other students,” he said.
